NeXT SOFTWARE PARTNERS WITH INTERNATIONAL INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER
TO DELIVER DYNAMIC WEB-BASED APPLICATIONS
Redwood City, Calif.-February 20, 1996-NeXT Software today announced
that ThoughtPort Authority, Inc., an international Internet Service
Provider (ISP), will use NeXT's WebObjects (TM) product suite to
provide customers with highly interactive server-based Web
applications that leverage existing corporate data and applications.
ThoughtPort will offer WebObjects-based solutions to customers
through its Web presence design, development, hosting, and consulting
services.
"We have chosen NeXT's WebObjects as our preferred toolset for
building and deploying Web applications because it delivers a
comprehensive solution for building Web applications for both the
Enterprise and the Internet," said Kevin Tauber, president of
ThoughtPort Authority, Inc. "WebObjects offers a proven Web
development platform, an open environment that integrates a company's
existing corporate resources, and an object-based system allowing
rapid application development. This means we spend less time in
development and our customers are able to quickly realize the
ubiquity and power of the Web"
WebObjects Product Family
Announced last January at NeXT's WebMania event in San Francisco,
NeXT's WebObjects product family delivers powerful results to
corporations investigating Web development tools. Realizing that
companies today have already invested heavily in information
technology, NeXT's Web products are designed to preserve a
corporation's technology investment and work in tandem with existing
databases and applications. Developers using the WebObjects products
can expand the reach of this existing infrastructure to both the
Internet and the Enterprise without having to rewrite data and
applications-translating into a quantifiable savings for the
corporation.
* WebObjects works with industry standard data sources such as
Oracle, Informix, and Sybase databases and, through third
party software, can support mainframe and legacy access.
* WebObjects offers an open environment that is operating
system-independent spanning both UNIX and Windows
environments.
* WebObjects is HTTP server-independent, OLE compatible, takes
advantage of native server APIs, such as Netscape's
NSAPI, and can use existing programming languages such as PERL, C,
and C++ languages.
* WebObjects allows companies using Sun Microsystems' Java and
Netscape's JavaScript to incorporate these technologies
into robust server-based Web applications.
The WebObjects product family is comprised of three products:
WebObjects offers an easy entry point for building dynamic Web-based
applications using the WebScript scripting language, this product is
available via free download from NeXT's Web site; WebObjects Pro
answers the needs of Web developers wanting to move beyond
script-based development to build more complex applications using
compiled C, C++, and Objective C code and also provides OLE access;
WebObjects Enterprise is NeXT's complete dynamic Web development
solution that encapsulates a corporation's existing data and
applications with a database-independent framework supporting true
separation of business logic from user interfaces and data sources.
"We are pleased that Internet service providers such as ThoughtPort
Authority are using our tools to build fully- integrated, dynamic,
Web solutions for their customers," said Mitchell Mandich, vice
president of worldwide sales, NeXT Software. "Corporations today
need a robust development environment that not only provides a Web
interface for their existing corporate resources, but also moves with
the tide of the fast-moving Web market to adopt current and emerging
standards. NeXT has done just that with the WebObjects environment
and as this market matures we believe that our technology will stand
out as a forerunner for the Web."
